Got good handwriting? Then there are prizes for you!

In this age of WhatsApp and emails, not everybody is so keen about having good handwriting. Even signatures have become so uncommon with digital tools and fingerprint technologies. Unless until you are a school student, you need not take a pen at all. (In some schools, tiny-tots are being encouraged to use iPads, not pens and notebooks). Learning cursive, joined-up handwriting was once compulsory in schools. But now, not so much. Countries such as Finland have dropped joined-up handwriting lessons in schools in favour of typing courses. And in the US, the requirement to learn cursive has been left out of core standards since 2013.

Still, having good handwriting is a unique skill students can possess. Research also shows handwriting could have cognitive benefits, artistic merit, and a personal touch – and could help students learn faster.

That's why there are handwriting competitions across the world. One of the premier competitions is World Handwriting Contest, where there is no age barrier. So here's everything you want to know about the contest.
